Underground Settlements

The underground settlements were desperate survival refuges beneath a scorched surface world, carved into cavernous tunnel networks and reinforced vaults. The technology underground was functional, harsh, and survival-oriented rather than advanced or luxurious. Air recyclers embedded in tunnel walls constantly pumped breathable air through cramped chambers, while condensation dripped along steel-lined corridors and concrete bulkheads, reinforcing a damp, industrial atmosphere.

Not everything was below ground. Surface infrastructure was equally vital: water purifiers, bio-forges, and vent towers scattered across the wastelands, fragile lifelines sustaining the sectors beneath. Bio-forges converted hazardous biomass and waste into usable energy and materials, forming the backbone of survival in the Scorch Zones.

Politically and technologically, these refuges were patched-together strongholds built for endurance, where recycled air, failing machinery, and precarious infrastructure stood between humanity and extinction.
